Complutense Library Loan Help Guide

Laptops loan

  • Patrons of the Complutense Library can request the loan of a laptop computer.
  • We have more than 700 computers in our libraries.
  • They can be requested at the circulation desks or in the self-service cabinets installed in some libraries.

Target

The aim of this service is the loan of laptop computers by the libraries to facilitate the study and teaching tasks of the university community.

By means of this service, it is possible to:

  • Access academic information resources related to learning, teaching, and research available through the Internet.
  • Use basic computer applications to create, edit, read, and save academic content.

Users

  • This service is available to all authorized patrons of the Complutense Library.
  • In order to use the loan service, users must present their TUI UCM university card or library card.
  • Some libraries provide the service by means of self-service cabinets.

Loan conditions

  • The user will request the service at the lending desk or at the self-service cabinet.
  • Loans will be made on presentation of the TUI UCM card or Library card.
  • The card is personal and non-transferable, so any complementary document that accredits the user's identity may be requested.
  • Once borrowed, the user may take the computer outside the library premises.
  • Laptop computers may be borrowed for a period of seven days, adjusted to the closing time of the branch.
  • It must be returned one hour before the closing time of the library premises. Failure to comply with these deadlines will result in the corresponding penalty.
  • The user is fully responsible for the equipment, as well as for its custody and care during the loan period. Neither the hardware nor the software installed on the computer may be manipulated. The computer must be returned in the same condition in which it was given to the user.
  • The user shall be responsible for the integrity and proper upkeep of the laptop computer and shall inform the library staff of any alteration observed.
  • When a user borrows these devices, there is an acceptance of the lending conditions and applicable regulations.
  • The Library is not responsible for any loss of information that may occur. The user has the possibility of saving information on the corresponding device, cloud storage, or e-mail account.

Failure to comply with the rules

Any action by users that do not comply with the rules established by the Library for the loan of laptop computers will entitle the University, depending on the entity and significance of the action, to take any of the following immediate measures:

  • Warning about the improper use of the computer by the user.
  • Suspension of the laptop loan service, which may be indefinite or temporary, the latter with a maximum duration of six months.
  • In the event of failure to comply with the previously established return deadlines, the service will be suspended for a period of between one week and six months, in direct proportion to the delay incurred.
  • In the event of loss, destruction, or deterioration of the laptop computer, the suspension measure shall be adopted until the computer is replaced by another of the same characteristics or, where appropriate, the damage caused is repaired.
