Complutense Library Loan Help Guide

Proquest Ebook Central provides access to a collection of over 200,000 ebooks from various disciplines in multiple languages. They can be found by searching directly in the Cisne Browser or from the Ebook Central website. To access the content of the books it is necessary to identify yourself with a UCM email account and password.

Loaning and downloading books and chapters

There are three possibilities for using the books in Proquest Ebook Central:

  • Online reading. This allows you to read the content of the book without having to download it. Internet connection required.
  • Download ("digital loan"). With this option, the complete book is downloaded to an electronic device (to read it, it will be necessary to have previously obtained the free Adobe Digital Editions programme). Depending on the type of availability of each book, the user can decide the number of days of loan: 1, 2, 3, 7, 14, or 21 days. With this option, an Internet connection is only required for downloading, but not afterwards, for reading the book on the device on which it has been downloaded.
  • PDF download and printing of chapters. Individual chapters can be downloaded and printed. When you download the chapter, you get a PDF file with no expiry date (which can be read without having downloaded Adobe Digital Editions). As above, an Internet connection is only required for downloading.
Attention: The loan of documents in Proquest Ebook Central is independent of documents that may be physically borrowed from UCM libraries, as well as e-books that may have been borrowed or downloaded from other lending platforms subscribed to by the Complutense Library.

Return

Downloaded e-books are automatically returned when the period of time selected at the time of the loan expires.

Renewal

A downloaded book can be re-downloaded once the loan period has expired.

Reservation

It is not possible to reserve books on the platform.

Depending on the subscription conditions of each book, it is possible that all copies of the same title are on loan and there is no possibility of reading it at a given time. In these cases, the platform warns, in the "Availability" section, of the time during which the book will not be available.
